The use of a play therapy program at a child care center and the effects on children’s daily stress, problem behaviors and adaptive behavior

Abstract

|
The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of play therapy at child care centers on daily stress, problem behaviors and child care center adaptation. 7 experimental groups were exposed to play therapy at a child care center, whilst 7 control groups did not receive anyexposure to play therapy. Before being exposed to play therapy, the Mann Whitney test was conducted in order to measure group homogeneity. In addition, a Wilcoxon test was used to measure any pre-post-change. The results were as follows. Firstly, there was a significant positive change in the total average of the adaptation behavior of the experimental group after exposure to the play therapy; however, there was no significant difference in the control group. Second, in the case of the daily stress experienced by infants, the experimental group showed a significant decrease, a change which was not observed in the control group. Third, the problem behaviors of the infants showed a positive change in the experimental group. In the control group, the mean score did not change significantly.
